Adylkuzz | The New Threat to your Computer

May 20, 2017

There is a new threat to your computer and it is different to the likes of your average computer virus in the sense that it does not announce its presence in any way other than your computer running slower than usual. This new threat actually predates Wannacry also known as Wannacrypt  which we wrote about last week.

Instead of locking you files and demanding a ransom to release them, Adylkuzz works by quietly installing itself in the background of your computer then runs its software to mine a digital Crypto-Currency similar to bitcoin called Monero.

It has been projected by Cyber-Security experts that it will infect more computers than the recent Wannacrypt Ransomware which peaked at about 300,000 computers globally.

It turns out this virus is very effective and it is widely believed to be making its creators a five figure sum everyday and growing rapidly as the worm spreads. So how can you protect yourself from such nasty bugs that slow down your computer and have cyber criminals making money at your expense ?

The best way to keep yourself safe is to be very careful when opening emails and downloading files and do not open files and emails from unknown senders.

Other things you should always keep on top of are making sure your computer has all the latest updates from your provider whether Apple or Microsoft.

Ensure your Anti-Virus and Malware scanners are up to date and scanning regularly.

Ensure your email filters and firewall settings are up to date.

If you need a hand with any of the above mentioned do not hesitate to give us a call or make an enquiry today. Our friendly and knowledgeable technicians are always on hand and ready to offer advice over the phone or arrange a site visit.
